Slow Dance (Free Style)
This dance can be done with good technique to any song in 4/4 timing. Danced to Blues, Fast or Slow, Love Songs or Jazz. Includes dips, leans and tricks. This combines rock steps and travelling steps and calls on the spontanaity of the leader to make it interesting! Very fun and an excellent place to start your lessons, because it's easy. You will learn a LOT about leading and following in this dance.
East Coast Swing / Rockabilly Swing
Danced to Rockabilly, Jitterbug, Big Band, Blues, music. This was the dance most popular in the 50's. This is the first Partner dance I ever learned and my favorite. Single or Triple time.
Salsa
Before you do all the fancy stuff you need to learn the ins and outs of the salsa rhythm! Danced to Salsa music. Includes basic styling and floor work. Once you work on cuban motion you will never stop dancing Salsa again!
Partner Charleston
An 8 count dance that your grandma probably did! So fun! But veru aerobic! Trust me, it's not for grandma now!
Country 2 StepLearn the ins and outs of the most popular country dance standing the test of time. Yee Haw! Danced to country and bluegrass music. This involves a lot of spinning and can get quite fast!
Country Waltz
1,2,3 and turn! This is a traditional and beautiful American dance done to country music or traditional waltz. Don't sit out those slow Waltzes this time. What makes this version country is the handholds as compared to traditional American Waltz.
Lindy Hop
I teach Savoy Style Lindy Hop not the Disco Lindy I see going on now. I'm using the steps of Frankie Manning as outlined by Pasadena Ballroom Association, and many other instructors I studied with. Lindy is a very rigorous dance for people with good knees! and who want to play with rhythm). Danced to Swing, Big Band, Blues, Hot Jazz music. You'll also learn famous steps in rhythm like the "Suzy Q", Charleston Kicks, The Boogie Back, Shorty George.
Fox Trot
As I learned at Arthur Murray and Long Beach Dance Studio this classic traditional American Dance is a nice place to start your journey. The Fox Trot will introduce you to the correct posture of a very fun and classy dance when done right! This requires balance and elegence. This is also a great dance to start with because it's fairly easy at first.
Rumba
Learn the slow latin dance that is all about the romance! A dance that is very fun to learn, and that can be done to most down-tempo love songs. T(his includes cuban motion technique). I'm using steps from Arthur Murray again.
American Waltz
Learn a traditional Ballroom dance that was popular in the 1800's. It is a rigorous quick step done to none other than the "Waltz". (This is not vienese waltz).
American Tango
This year I am starting to offer American Tango. This is an 8 count dance and is similiar in motion to Fox Trot but a different position, and softer knees. Round out your knowledge with Tango and bring the attitude! (This is not Argentine Tango which is very improvisational).
Aerials Swing
Once you have learned basic safety and lead and follow techniques, let's get you off the ground! I can break down some of the most showy but simple areials.
Aerials Salsa
Get off the floor with simple areials that can be worked into your exisiting salsa moves!
All dances are taught with lead moves, not choreographed moves. Even when I teach choregraphy it is always the leader that must initiate the move! (LADIES NO BACKLEADING).
I'm learning all the time, and seek to be a great instructor that is able to present a good cross-section of all American Social Dances thru Mid Century. If there is a dance you'd like to learn that isn't listed, ask me ! I might be working on it.
